3D Model Timelapse | Screwdriver | Maya
Timelapse for a 3D modelling challenge (Screwdriver in 20 minutes).
**IMPORTANT CHANNEL INFO BELOW**
So I've been very busy as of late, and my time, as it stands is stretched quite thin, as such, uploads have been suffering. I've noticed that this channel is getting some attention from the stylise hair video that I made using curve warp, I'd like to thank everyone who has shown support on that video, and, rest assured that I WILL be doing a full process video for creating a hair style, I wan't to try and incorporate a faster method of getting hair curves on the head (possibly through xGen) first and nailing down that technique before I start recording (it will likely be a series). In the mean time, I've been working on some challenge/prompt models, just to keep my skills in check in the 3D department. Outside of 3D art and modelling, I've been doing a lot of paid website development work for a couple of clients, as well as searching for a new job in order to fund future content (I'll be making a game development series for a title that I'm going to release) and I'm going to need to buy assets and software.
So that's just about it, I have another video going up on my music channel GGP_Music, which is a end of year mix that I usually do called Winter Vibes, its a 1hr and 9min long mix of liquid drum and bass, so if you're into that, then please pop over to the music channel and have a listen to some of my stuff, and if you like what you hear, consider supporting that channel too with a subscribe.

Too often when a person is intimately familiar with a program they will go in to automode and skip key steps but I think you covered everything. Thanks!

    Thanks so much for this very useful tutorial. However, when I get to the point where I'm adjusting the scale curve, the points won't move for me. I'm not doing anything different than what you are to that point. Ideas??

    • @GGPAnimationAndy
      @GGPAnimationAndy 3 роки тому

      Hi Andy, Thanks for the comment. Hmm, the grid for the control curve should let you move the points, otherwise its a pointless feature, what version of Maya are you using? I didn't come across this issue back when I created this tutorial, is the grid greyed out all? Looking back through the video it may be something to do with the value's under the Mesh Scaling section of the curve warp ( 5:07 ), I get the feeling that there may be a specific setting for those values that may render adjustments to the curve un-noticeable. Unfortunately my knowledge would end there as I haven't used Maya in a few years now.

    • @GGPAnimationAndy
      @GGPAnimationAndy 3 роки тому

      Hi nathaly, thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear you're have trouble adjusting the scale curve, unfortunately this is not something I have come across so I'm not 100% on a fix for this, it has been some time since I last used Maya. I have suggested to another user (who has the same problem) that adjusting the values in the Mesh Scaling options of the curve warp (as seen at 5:07) may yield some results, as a certain combination of these values may result in the scale curve not adjusting the mesh properly, however that is just a theory and I can't test it myself. As for Curly toon style hair that you mentioned in your other comment, you could try creating a curve that spirals around and then curve warp to that, basically the mesh will conform to the length of the curve no matter the curve's shape, I hope this gives you some insight into the potential process for creating curly style hair strands/clumps.

    • @GGPAnimationAndy
      @GGPAnimationAndy 4 роки тому

      This character model was a placeholder that I put together using the Mixamo Fuse Character Creator program(which can be downloaded on Steam). The materials and textures in that software were designed specifically for Fuse using Substance and can be exported with your character as texture maps. The shader in Maya is a surface shader with the exported diffuse texture from Fuse as its colour, multiplied with a 2-tone toon shader ramp, and the result connected to the colour of another surface shader, to do this you need to use the hypershade window. Hope this helps, and thank you for the comment :D

    Hello. Thanks for the vid, it really helped me alot on my journey. One question tho: lattices. Tons of them. How to remove them without ruining the whole hairdo?

    • @GGPAnimationAndy
      @GGPAnimationAndy 4 роки тому

      You're welcome, glad it was useful. To get rid of the lattices you can do Edit -> Delete by type -> History, on the selected hair strands, this will clear the link between the mesh and the lattice (This might also delete the lattice, if it doesn't then you can delete these afterwards), be careful though as this will also un-link the hair strand from the curve as well, so only do this once you are 100% satisfied with the positioning of the strands.

      At the time when I made the tutorial I hadn't found a good way of making this a quicker process. I had tried duplicating the curve and mesh but that resulted in some very strange and broken curve-warp behavior, so I didn't include it in the video, that problem may have been fixed in Maya 2019/2020, so if you have either of those version you could try that.

    Great video, it's really helped me out! You shouldn't have to make a new curve for each strand right? Could you just duplicate the mesh and curve and use it as a different strand?

    • @GGPAnimationAndy
      @GGPAnimationAndy 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, I'm glad this tutorial helped you. I suppose you probably could, but at the time when I was prototyping this, duplicating the curve and mesh was very buggy, and never guaranteed to work, the hair strand would disappear or behave in an erratic manner. That may be something that has been fixed since then (I was using Maya 2018 in this video and it could have been fixed in 2019/2020), so you could give it a shot, if it is still buggy you could delete the history once you are happy with the shape, then duplicate the curve and create a new mesh.

    • @zollo911
      @zollo911 4 роки тому

      @@GGPAnimationAndy I tried duplicate the curve and mesh but alas the curve is no longer attached to the mesh. unu I've tried deleting history and other thing but I just don;t think it works. I'm probably just going to make many strands because I want the easy move-ability that the curve gives to the strand.
